I said in last week’s post that I would post the books I’m using to research and learn about Bigfoots. Some of these are for specific purposes – such as Native American accounts or sightings from a specific region – but others are more generalized and good for a casual read about the creatures and evidence as a whole. I am enjoying all of them so far, and would love to hear any of your suggestions on books or publications that I should pick up and add to my collection, and possibly my book’s bibliography. Sasquatch: Legend Meets Science
Written as a companion piece to the documentary that started it all for me, Dr. Jeff Meldrum dives even deeper into the evidence and expert analysis here. I highly recommend this as a starter book for the Bigfoot topic.
Amazon Description:
In this landmark work on a subject too often dismissed as paranormal or disreputable, Jeff Meldrum gives us the first book on sasquatch to be written by a scientist with impeccable academic credentials, an objective look at the facts in a field mined with hoaxes and sensationalism.
Meldrum reports on the work of a team of experts from a wide variety of fields who were assembled to examine the evidence for a large, yet undiscovered, North American primate. He reviews the long history of this mystery–which long predates the “bigfoot” flap of the late fifties–and explains all the scientific pros and cons in a clear and accessible style, amplified by over 150 illustrations.
Anyone who has pondered the mysteries of human evolution will be fascinated and eager to join Dr. Meldrum in drawing their own conclusion.
Sasquatch: the apes among us
John Green’s work is considered by most Bigfooters to be one of the preeminent sources on the subject. I’ll be honest, I haven’t delved into this one yet directly, but I have seen and heard it referenced in other works.
Amazon Description:
John Green is the pre-eminent authority on the fascinating question of whether mankind shares North America with another upright-walking primate, having researched the subject for more than 40 years and assembled a file of more than 4000 reports. A graduate of the University of British Columbia and the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in New York, and a newspaperman of more than 30 years experience, he is uniquely qualified to be the chronicler of the investigation as well as one of the leading participants. His previous books have sold more than 200,000 copies.
Finding Bigfoot: Everything You Need to Know
Some people will roll their eyes at this one, but it really is a good book. And I am a fan of the show. I understand that the show is focused on entertainment more than substance, but I still like it. And if you want a little more substance this book has it.
Amazon Description:
A howl in the distance. The biggest footprint you’ve ever seen. A blurry figure in the distance. These are the clues that lead us to believe there is something out there – Bigfoot.
Already a fan of the wildly successful Finding Bigfoot show on Animal Planet? Stacked with information for your burning questions, this work features a compelling narrative with commentary from the stars of the show, photographs and extras from the Animal Planet’s archives, and so much more. Skeptics will be given all the information they need to decide for themselves if they believe, and enthusiasts will revel in this essential Bigfoot audiobook.
Do you hear that howl? Bigfoot is calling.
A Few Others
There are a few others I’ll include here, some I will leave out for now as I have a lot more reading to do. I have a pile (well, really a file) of books I haven’t gotten to yet.
I’m also having trouble with my Amazon embeds, so I’m sorry if all of the images aren’t showing.
